Shahadat of Hazrat Muslim bin ‘Aqil – 9 Dhu l-Hijja / October 4, 2014

When Imam Husein (A.S.) left Madina on 28th Rajab, 60 A.H. for Makkah (for his final journey towards Karbala), H. Muslim (AS) (his cousin), also accompanied him with his wife and children. They arrived in Makkah on 3rd Shabaan, 60 A.H.

During Imam Husein (AS)’s stay in Makkah, Imam (A.S.) received many invitations from Kufa, to go there and lead and guide them towards real Islam – the religion endorsed by Allah swt. Al-Husayn, peace be upon him, summoned Muslim bin Aqil and dispatched him to Kufa. Muslim, the mercy of God be on him, departed until he came to Medina. There he prayed in the mosque of the Apostle of God, may God bless him and his family, and said farewell to the dearest members of his family.

He went on until he entered Kufa. There he stayed in the house of al-Mukhtar bin Abi Ubayda, which is called today the house of Muslim bin al-Musayyib. Muslims began to come regularly to see him. Whenever a group of them gathered together with him, he would read the letter of al-Husayn, peace be upon him, and they would weep. The people pledged allegiance to him (on behalf of al-Husayn) to the extent that eighteen thousand men made such a pledge to him. Therefore Muslim wrote to al-Husayn, peace be upon him, informing him of the pledge of allegiance to him of the eighteen thousand and urging him to come.

Muslim bin Aqil’s (attempted) rising in Kufa was on Tuesday, 8th of Dhu al-Hijja in the year 60 A.H. (680). He, May God have mercy on him, was killed on Wednesday, 9th of Dhu al-Hijja, on the Day of Arafah

Our deepest condolences to the Muslim Ummah and especially to the lovers of Ahlul Bait A.S. and to our present Imam Al-Mahdi (May Allah Hasten His Appearance). On the death anniversary of Imam Husein (A.S.)’s Ambassador and the first martyr of the epic battle of Karbala – Hazrat Muslim Bin Aqil (A.S.)

Amaal of Arafah – 9 Dhu l-Hijja / October 4, 2014

The day of Arafah is one of the most sacred days of the Islamic Calendar. On this day Allah invites his servants towards his worship and obedience, and spreads his bounties and blessings. Our 4th Imam Zaynul Abidin (A.S.) says about this great day:

“O God, this is the day of Arafah a day which you have made noble, given honor and magnified within it. You have spread your mercy, showed kindness through your pardon, made plentiful your giving and by it you have been gracious towards your servants.” (Sahifa as-Sajjadiyyah, Du’a no. 47)

It is also narrated by our 4th Imam that once he saw a man begging from people on the day of Arafah. Imam said, “Woe unto you that on a day like this you are asking from other than God. This is a day when the mercy and grace of Allah reaches (even) the fetus in the womb.”

The night of Arafah is also a blessed night of prayers and worship. Repentance is accepted on this night and the supplications are answered. Whoever does good on this night is amply awarded.

On the Day of Arafah, it is highly recommended to recite the Du’a of Arafah by Imam Hussain (A.S.). The Du’a is one of the greatest gifts we have from our Imam and it illustrates how we should be thankful for everything we have. To view a commentary of this Du’a, click here.

Please remember all our muslim brothers and sisters all over the world especially those who are in difficulties and those who are sick. Let us also pray that we all get the special invitation to be in the plains of Arafah or be in the haraam of Imam Hussain (A.S.) in Karbala next year.
